Feed my face
SO with the combination of my new crock pot (LOVE that thing) + starting to like cooking more + eating/being healthy, I’ve decided to start planning menus (because I’m not a very smart grocery store shopper at all). I’m really excited for this actually! Here’s next week’s menu (p.s. all the dinner dishes are vegetarian!): Saturday 1/14 - Lunch: Turkey/Cheese rolls -...

Half Marathon Training: Week 4 Day 5
Oh man. Vegas was a LOT of fun, but (expectedly) I’m unfortunately completely off my training schedule. I got one run in while I was away (which is great), but I missed yesterday and I’m likely going to miss today since my body has no concept of what time it is and I’m pretty sure I’m zombie. Debating doing a repeat of this week (after I do Saturday and Sunday’s...

Half Marathon Training: Week 3 Day 7
Well, the bad news is that I probably won’t get my run in today. But the GOOD news? I’m currently en route to Las Vegas (what’s up in-flight wifi on Virgin America)! Woo hoo! I’m definitely going to try to get some runs in while i’m out there - hoping it’ll add a little excitement with a change of scenery! Also good luck to all those kick-ass people out...

Half Marathon Training: Week 3 Day 6
I DID IT! Today I ran 4 miles! For some reason, this one was a huge milestone for me, because everything I’ve read said that once you hit 4 miles, you’re able to get in the zone and do the rest. I’m ecstatic! And for the first time ever today, I actually felt like a runner.

Half Marathon Training: Week 3 Day 5
My elliptical cross-training prowess was only aided today by the mad sprint I just made from the gym to make a 9:00AM deliverable. AND I made it with one minute to spare. Boom!

Half Marathon Training: Week 3 Day 4
And we’re back! Managed to get through three miles today, for REAL, which is great! So excited to be back in the swing of things. I’m really interested to see how things go next week, considering I’m going to be in Las Vegas from Sunday-Wednesday. I’m slated to run 2.5 miles on Sunday and 3 miles on Tuesday, but I think it might be really fun to hit the road out there and...

Half Marathon Training: Week 3 Day 2
Welp. Today’s the day I’m back at it, and it was certainly not easy. I was a huge wuss on the treadmill today - I don’t know if it was just that I’m tired, or that I changed things up and went AFTER work (instead of before, which is usually the case) or what, but I did not do well. My shins feel FINE even, it’s just… my brain wasn’t in it. I made it...

Half Marathon Training: Week 2 Day 7
More cardio for everyone! I’m feeling good though - legs feeling strong, shin splints fading away - I think I’m going to be able to hop back on the running plan this week! Woo hoo! Also, I just downloaded an audio book to listen to while I work out (my biggest, biggest problem with running is that I get SO BORED) - and it’s awesome! Granted, it is The Hunger Games, which is,...

Half Marathon Training: Week 2 Day 6
Today’s modified plan was low impact cardio. LOTS of cardio. And I took what was probably the best spinning class of my LIFE this morning. It was tough and challenging and amazing (I forgot how much I like spinning!) and just the exact perfect thing to get me back into the swing of feeling good about working out. So for any of you NYers out there, you MUST take a spin class with Jillian...

Half Marathon Training: Week 2 Day 5
Thankfully, today is a rest day, since these shins are still a problem. Blah blah blah shin splints wahhhhhh! This weekend I’m going hard core, low impact cardio - so we’ll see how that goes once I pick up the running again on Tuesday. In the meantime, here are some pancakes:

Half Marathon Training: Week 2 Day 4
Last night I had a dream where I was running (yes, seriously). I got “in the zone” on the treadmill and when I looked down I saw that I had run 8 miles. “See?” I remember thinking, “This isn’t as hard as you thought.” Today’s run was less than impressive by comparison. Despite the new kicks I bought last night (which I LOVE by the way - super light...

Half Marathon Training: Week 2 Day 3
Today’s a rest day - PRAISE JEBUS! This shin thing is really going to be an issue. Even just walking down the stairs to the subway this morning was PAINFUL. So it’s decided - today’s rest day activity is going to be purchasing new sneakers. Let’s hope this helps the situation! Full update after tomorrow’s 3-mile run.

Half Marathon Training: Week 2 Day 2
John Phillip SOUSA my shins hurt. Like, really hurt. I managed to make it through my 2 miles today (and actually made really good time due to how badly I wanted to get it over with).  When I first first started running, I had annoyingly awful shin splints. But when I went and got a pair of (good) new sneakers, they pretty much went away. And now they’re back. With a VENGEANCE. I...

Half Marathon Training: Week 1 Day 7
Today’s plan was “an easy 2 mile run.” And I managed to finally get myself down to average under a 10-minute mile (the sprints in the last mile which I did to help get everything over with actually helped out there). TRIUMPH.
